The monumental houses in Frederikstraat, located in Otrobanda, are among the oldest residential buildings in Willemstad. In the 18th and 19th centuries, they were primarily inhabited by wealthy merchants, plantation owners, and government officials, and later by local Curaçaoan families. Following the abolition of slavery, the demographics of the residents shifted, and many of these grand estates were divided into multiple separate homes.
